Formwork is a type of mould which was used for the temporary purpose in construction, which gives desired shape to the structure, also by the method where concrete is poured to cast of the required shape of the concrete. As there are so many different types of formworks are available commercially in the market.
Whereas the shuttering was known to be synonymous with the word Formwork. In some nations, users and clients are using the term more shuttering rather than formwork. Formwork or Shuttering has become temporary assistance which gives complete support which by moulding as a mixture of concrete wherein concrete is fixed for to appear a required structure of definite shape, sizes as to obtains initial strength to the structure and developed.
Normally the material from which the formworks are made from timber, plastic, plywood, aluminium or steel, the surface which in contact with the concrete are selected to give the required finish of the structure. The shuttering and other associated falsework should have sufficient strength to support and carry the weight of heavy wet concrete without any significant distortion.
Forms are the following types on the basis of materials:
Types of Formworks are as follows.
Timber shuttering is the most commonly used one among the other type of formwork materials made. As the timber
forms give extreme support to the concrete which is extensively used in construction from many years old, which is one of the oldest methods, that used in construction.
Timber shuttering must follow the following requirement:
Steel formwork is widely used because of its durability, strength and can be used in hard or hash place stills it can be repetitively reused for a longer period. Steel shuttering provides a smooth surface finish to concrete as compared to other forms. Most commonly it's used for circular or curved structures making of such as columns, tanks, chimneys, tunnels, sewers, and retaining walls.
The density of aluminium is quite less when compared to steel and which is the reason that makes it light weighted than steel, which can be easily movable and its durability and strongness give life long period. This is the main advantage when compared to steel.
Plywood formwork is easy to handle also which is one of the re-moulded timber resin-bonded plywood sheets which are attached to timber frames to make up panels of the desired shape and required sizes.
